Donation of a scooter no one could use

April 21, 2009

In working with the NGO Shropshire Music Foundation I witness how they use what they have and have to get by with what they don’t. In their efforts to setup their program in Uganda I received an offer from a US manufacturer of electric scooters to donate a scooter to the program. Great news. But from there it became frustrating and disappointing because the opportunity slipped away. It turned out shipping from the US to Uganda was going to be expensive and difficult. Also, the scooter would not perform well on some of the rocky terrain. So a great offer, a great product, but not the right fit. The program could still use some economical transportation there, so we’ll keep looking for them.

An upcoming trip to Gulu, Uganda

April 21, 2009

To continue the story of helping children survive war, I will need to travel to Gulu, Uganda to witness how the group that started helping kids in Kosovo is now working in other areas of the world. Burim, who grew up benefiting from the Kosovo program now is an instumental part in the ongoing operations to help establish their program in Uganda and Northern Ireland. Traveling and getting around in Gulu will prove more challenging than it was in Kosovo. I’m also seeking funding assistance for this trip I’d like to make in June. I’m working on fiscal sponsorship as I have done with my film in India. As always, anything helps, so if you are interested please email me at

Welcome to the film blog for Hope Dies the Last – Children Surviving War

April 16, 2009

I’m Paul Kakert, the Director for the documentary “Hope Dies the Last – Children Surviving War”. For most of us, war is something we read about. But for far too many, it’s a harsh and devastating reality. Of all the innocent victims, few could argue that the children suffer the most. This film is about those children, specifically groups of them in Kosovo and Uganda. It’s a story filled with tragedy, but also enduring hope for the future.

Production commenced in July of 2008 and final filming is set for the summer of 2009. I hope to have the film released by the beginning of 2010. There is a lot to do and many opportunities to help. If you would like to be a part of this important and inspirational story and can contribute any amount to offset travel and production costs, please contact me. I appreciate your support.
